Long-Term Plan: (Vision)

It was felt that a planned and systematic development of the city is possible only through a clear vision. Participation of different political parties active in the city, industrialists, businessmen, intellectuals, representatives of the government and non-government organizations, representatives of the local people, many different donor organizations were invited to take active part in the interaction and identification of the specific possibilities of the city, with the technical assistance of udle/GTZ. Dharan, a beautiful city with education, health and tourism infrastructure was declared as the long-term vision of the city on the occasion of Visit Nepal 1998.

And in 2003, as Dharan is not only the gateway to the Eastern Region but also the trade center, the Municipality has added the vision that Dharan should be a trade center, too.

Strategies of the Municipality to Meet the Long-Term Vision

  • To identify the areas of maximum support and participation of GOs, NGOs, private sectors.
  • To identify what and how projects work with the involvement of participation or support from the private sector.
  • To identify what resources and projects the local, regional or central government can offer.
  • To identify what support donor organizations/ international organizations can offer.
  • To identify the areas where national/international support is possible, to communicate and establish relations and to forward proposals to the donors, and to mobilize their assistance to the maximum level.
